Submission Terms & Content License

Effective date: October 20, 2026

Plain-English summary

  • It has to be yours. Only send footage, photos and stories you own or have permission to share, and only if anyone who can be identified in them has agreed.
  • You keep ownership. You're giving Fallen Drones permission to use it, not giving it away.
  • Where it can appear: fallendrones.com and Fallen Drones' social channels, including YouTube, Facebook, Discord and future channels, some of which may earn ad or sponsor money.
  • We may edit it for length or format and add captions.
  • Credit: we credit you by the name or handle you give us, unless you ask to stay anonymous.
  • Changed your mind? Email submissions@fallendrones.com. We'll take it off the site and stop new posts, but we can't pull back copies other people have already shared.
  • No payment unless we agree to it in writing.
  • Fly legal. No dangerous or illegal flying, and no restricted-airspace footage you shouldn't share.

This summary is here to help. The full terms below are what apply.

1. Who these terms are between

These terms apply when you send a video, photo, story, location or other material (your "Submission") to Fallen Drones, the site at fallendrones.com run by Dan Schaller ("Fallen Drones", "we" or "us"), through the submit form, through our Dropbox upload link, by email to submissions@fallendrones.com, or by another method we accept. By checking the agreement box on the form, or by sending us a Submission, you agree to these terms. If you're under 18, you need a parent or guardian to agree for you.

2. What you promise us

When you send a Submission, you confirm that:

  • You own the footage, photos and story, or you have the right to share them and grant the license below. If you're sending something someone else filmed, you have their permission.
  • Anyone who can be identified in the Submission (by face, voice, name, house, license plate or similar) has agreed to it being shared publicly. If they're under 18, their parent or guardian has agreed.
  • The Submission doesn't break any law or anyone else's rights, including copyright, privacy and publicity rights.
  • The information you give us, like how the crash happened, is honest to the best of your knowledge.

3. The license you give us

You keep ownership of your Submission, including the copyright. You give Fallen Drones a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual license to host, store, display, reproduce, edit for length or format, caption, and republish your Submission, in whole or in part, on fallendrones.com and on Fallen Drones' social media channels, including YouTube, Facebook, Discord and any future Fallen Drones channels. This includes channels and pages that may earn advertising or sponsor revenue, such as monetized YouTube videos or sponsored Crash of the Month features. It also covers promoting the site with your Submission, for example a clip in a highlights video or a thumbnail in a share preview.

"Non-exclusive" means you're free to post, sell or license your Submission anywhere else too. Editing will only be for length, format, captions, clarity or safety (for example blurring a face or a license plate). We won't change what your story is about.

We may let the platforms we post on (like YouTube and Facebook) display and distribute your Submission as their normal services work, for example letting viewers watch, embed or share it.

4. Credit

We'll credit your Submission using the name or handle you give us in the credit field (or your name or pilot name if you leave it blank). If you check "Keep me anonymous", or ask us by email, we'll publish it without your name or handle. We'll do our best to credit correctly. If we get it wrong, tell us and we'll fix it on the site and in future posts.

5. Removal requests

You can ask us to remove your Submission at any time by emailing submissions@fallendrones.com. When you do, we will remove it from fallendrones.com and stop making new posts with it, normally within 30 days. We'll also take down or unlist our own social posts where the platform lets us. We can't guarantee removal of copies that other people have already downloaded, shared, embedded or reposted, or content inside cached search results. A removal request ends our license for any future use, but doesn't undo uses that already happened.

6. No payment

Submissions are voluntary and unpaid. Sharing your Submission on channels that earn ad or sponsor revenue doesn't entitle you to a share of it, unless we've agreed to pay you in writing (an email from us counts). Badges, credit, and Crash of the Month features aren't payment.

7. What we don't accept

We review every Submission and may decline, edit or remove any of it at our discretion, without having to give a reason. Please don't send, and we won't publish:

  • Dangerous or illegal flying, such as flying over crowds, near airports, beyond the rules for your country (for example FAA Part 107 or recreational rules in the U.S.), or anything that encourages reckless flying.
  • Footage from restricted or controlled airspace, military or government sites, critical infrastructure, or emergency scenes that you shouldn't share or didn't have authorization to film.
  • Content that invades someone's privacy, such as filming into homes or private yards, or showing people who haven't agreed.
  • Content you don't have the rights to, including footage taken from someone else's channel without permission.
  • Graphic injuries, hate, harassment, or anything unlawful.

Crash footage is welcome here because it helps people learn. Sharing a crash isn't an admission of anything, but you're responsible for how you flew.

8. Your personal information

We handle the personal details in your Submission, like your email address, as described in our Privacy Policy. We never publish your email address.

9. If something goes wrong

If someone claims your Submission infringes their rights, we may remove it. You agree to be responsible for any claims that come from a Submission you didn't have the right to share, or from breaking the promises in section 2. Fallen Drones is provided as-is, as a free community project, and to the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect losses that come from using the site or your Submission.

If you think something on Fallen Drones uses your content without permission, email submissions@fallendrones.com with a link to it and we'll look into it promptly.

10. Changes

We may update these terms. The version in effect when you sent your Submission applies to it, unless you agree to a newer version. We'll update the effective date at the top when we make changes.
